Vacation in July=Fireworks & a Crawdad Boil
It's October. I'm just now getting to this post. Better late than never, right?
We drove to Missouri for the holiday. What a blast!
My sisters and I planned a crawfish boil down on the gravel bar. Dad was able to get us on the side of the river by The Landing. Which, if you are unaware, The Landing burned to the ground sometime in late August I think.
My elder sister's boyfriend has a knack for crawfish boil. We grilled some brats, Bobert handled the crawfish boil. We passed around the newborn twins and watched the elder twins play in the river. My eldest nephew and I spotted a turtle on the bottom of the river, so we brought it back for the other kiddos to investigate. That sucker was covered in worms. Not good.
My two elder man cubs now know how to use a snorkel, thanks to swimming in Mammie's pool and the river. Snorkeling is one of my favorite past times. We found numerous things in the river when we spent time with Dad. Things such as knives, lighters, clothes, towels, money, and lots of unopened beer and soda cans ended up in Dad's suburban every weekend. You never know what people will bring to the river (and lose).
**Btw, I have two videos from this day that I cannot put in this post. If you look at my update immediately following this post, both videos are viewable.**

I'm not sure how much we all collectively spent on fireworks for our Independence Day celebration at my parents' house. It was a spectacular show! My bonus dad said he had always wanted to string a bunch of fireworks together so they'd go off without a break between shots. We made that happen this year.
While Ernie, Jason and Paul linked the fireworks together on a table in the backyard, we had pork chops in the smoker. The newborn twins were snuggled up with me for much of the day. Thanks to Pandora, I danced them to sleep. The man cubs had mini backpacks full of fireworks. It was fun to see David learn how to pull a popper string. We allowed the elder man cubs to light some of their own fireworks this year. It's entirely different from California. We can actually have some fun with fireworks.
Speaking of which, the work put into connecting all of the fireworks fuses together was well worth the effort. I've never seen a backyard show as good as this one. And we've had far more fireworks in the past. We had the town firetruck drive by to check on us due to the amount of smoke rolling out from the continuous line of fireworks we had linked together. But then we also had numerous cars drive by real slow to watch. Our display could be seen across town.
We did have a couple hiccups though. During the first string of fireworks igniting, there were two that tipped over and shot at us. The scene of the able bodied snagging man/she cubs and shielding them behind the trees and lawn chairs was amusing AFTER it was all over. When we discovered that some of the fireworks did not ignite with the others, Ernie and Paul set those back up to ignite without help. The reason they didn't go off is because the hot glue used to keep the fireworks from getting knocked over during the explosions, melted. So the wicks didn't catch the sparks and instead, hung below the table line. That was also the reason for the two fireworks in the first string shooting at us. We had two more fireworks shoot at us in the second string we lit. That was a bit more chaotic than the previous episode. My younger cousin took one to the arm. No burns. Just a little debris.
Sounds scary. It was initially. More so because of the little kids. But it was still a blast. And we laughed real hard about it afterwards. We have a foolproof plan for next year!
