Cliche Fans Have Dreams Too
I'm gonna meet Steven Curtis Chapman!!!!!!!!! There are not enough emojis! π₯°ππ€©π I am absolutely so overwhelmingly ecstatic! My husband believes I'm nuts. That's fine. I will claim insanity on this one. Had to get the hair did last week--could not risk lookin' a hot mess at a meet & greet. I still don't know what I'm wearing...Is it sad I had to ask my seestors if I was crazy for considering slipping him some lyrics? I know, there is no way I'm the first person who has considered it or took the leap. I feel like a cliche fan right now...But if I don't take the opportunity, there may never be another one. So, here's to being brave, right? And ya know, since the patent on my lyrics is in the works already, I feel more confident about taking that leap of faith.
Some of you have read the first paragraph and scratched your head a bit. If you don't know who SCC is, Google him. He has been my ultimate inspiration for music since I was 12. Thank you Ernie for giving me the "Speechless" CD for Christmas that year. He is still my favorite artist, hands down. If you are still scratching your head at the thought of me writing music or singing, allow me to clarify that music is the second ultimate passion of mine. The first is my family--mostly my kids. My husband fends for himself relatively well but ya know, men are lost without us wives. Just sayin.....
Since I was a child, I dreamt of travelling the world singing before thousands. Mind you, my music has taken a huge turn from what it was a decade ago, and my priorities have changed. Not to mention, I never believed I had anything I wrote that was worth putting out into the public until recently. Sometimes all it takes is being brave.
My music history is a long one. Short version: My mom says I sang before I spoke. I was always the loudest singer in the group. I could memorize music in any form before I would know what my test answers were. I picked up piano easily (out of practice now but I digress), I play several wind instruments. My love is singing---I started roaming the bars where I lived starting in high school, strictly on karaoke nights. I developed the skills I learned sitting next to Grandma and Ernie in church, and from singing in a quartet with my sisters, into my own style of music. From there, my nights in the bar were spent reading the crowd, learning new songs from different time periods, and working on voice tricks. I got my best practice in the bars I traveled to as the DD for my friends.
Fast forward to now: I'm part of our church Worship Team. I write Contemporary Christian music now, inspired by life events. I don't write full on worship songs. I'm not quite there yet. The beauty of Country music (which was my go to in high school) is seeing life for what it is. There's good and bad. There are stories you simply can't make up. The heartbreak, the grief, the newfound love, family legacy, and having a little too much fun shed light on a time in the writer's life that others can relate to with the help of a little poetry and an instrument. SCC does that in the absolute best way, in my opinion. I always said if I wrote music, I would do it similar to how he does. It may sound crazy to most, but to me, it makes the most sense. And, quite frankly, why not?
